Russian Deputy Minister Visits Gush Katif Museum
"We will absorb Gush Katif expellees to establish greenhouses."
Deputy Governor and Economy Chief of the Setvoropol Region of Russia, Yuri Yagodayev, requested to visit the Gush Katif Museum in Yerushalayim. After hearing much about the expulsion and the new Museum established in the heart of Yerushalayim, he wished to learn first hand about what transpired in the Gush and how the expellees are coping today.
At the conclusion of his visit he remarked that the region where he is Finance Minister is ready to absorb Gush Katif expellees and benefit from their expertise in setting up greenhouses and will assist them.
Yuri Yagudayev, who is Jewish, said that it was fascinating to get acquainted with Gaza Rgion and the Jewish life there. In his opinion, the state of Israel went crazy when they decided on the disengagement. "This is the same as if Russia would have given Kalinigrad to Germany."
Yagudayev is well known as one of the brightest government members in the Stevarapol region, which includes the city of Rostov. Rabbi Meshulam Brukman joined the tour of the Museum and explained all the exhibits and history of the Gush in Russian. Rabbi Schneur Leider accompanied the Deputy Governor. He signed the Visitors′ Book with the hope that Israel will not repeat the same mistake again.
