Rabbi Ariel Atias, Minister of Construction and Housing, Pays a Surprise Visit to the Gush Katif Museum in Yerushalayim:
"The visit energized me and filled me with determination to do all in my power to assist the expellees…the lesson to be learned: not to permit similar moves to take place."
A very emotional and significant visit took place at the Gush Katif Museum in Yerushalayim, with Rabbi Ariel Atias, Construction and Housing Minister. The minister enjoyed a lengthwise visit to the Museum, not skipping over a single exhibit. He was eager to learn about the history of the Gaza Region and Gush Katif. When he got to ′Section Orange′ in the Museum he was very excited to see the Halachic ruling of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, on the eve of the expulsion, warning not to carry out the "disengagement."
Mr. Shlomo Wasserteil, museum director, told Misiter Atias that the Gush Katif settlers are indebted to Rabbi Yosef and the Shas party for their stand against the expulsion from Gush Katif, and presented him with a gift on behalf of the museum.
Minister Atias signed the guest book at the conclusion of his visit, writing: I saw, was emotional, and thought about how much love the Gush Katif residents have for the Jewish people and the IDF soldiers. What terrible trials and tribulations they endured while being evicted from their homes for no good reason! No good came about from the expulsion for anyone! …I am proud to serve as Construction and Housing Minister and Director of the Jewish National Fund (Keren Kayemet l′Yisroel), and I am responsible for and am building new settlements in a new region for these determined people. These new settlements are very costly; I have already launched the building of three settlements, and the preliminary development has already begun.
"This visit fueled me with determination to do all in my power that these housing projects be finished quickly for the benefit of the expellees.
"The lesson to be learned – for the leaders of the nation and for each individual- is not to permit such a unilateral move to take place again, just as Rabbi Yosef had said- that it will bring the missiles closer to the southern cities and the terror bases, run by those who wish to destroy us, will be strengthened."
