Netanyahu Declared War on Yehuda and Shomron′s Future

Benny Katzover, Chairman of the Shomron Settlers′ Council and one of the leaders of the Yesha settlements for the last thirty years, is afraid of Netanyahu and warns of irresponsible accords with the Arabs * He reveals: Home Front Command received evacuation plans for the Dan Region residents to Shomron, if attacked by missiles * Special to Our Land of Israel.

Benny Katzover, is Netanyahu worse than Sharon?

"Sharon had in him elements of a blown up ego, and evil, which Ehud Barak possesses in a large measure. Netanyahu′s viewpoint, on the other hand, is not too far removed from Tzipi Livni′s. Netanyahu′s advantage is that that those who surround him are not yet ripe to agree with the huge land cession that he believes in.

"Peres said that Netanyahu became a leftist, and he is correct. What greater proof is there than his "Two States for Two Peoples" policy, that he announced? There is no precedent to his construction freeze, especially in Yerushalayim. His greatest asset is his character weakness: maybe because of this the damage that he will cause will be less than the previous PMs who were stronger than he is."

Is the era of Right and Left over?

"The era of an ideological, secular right, disconnected from Judaism, is over. Only those connected to Judaism can stick up for their position. Today it is either left, or Judaism. We have seen it with all the Likud leaders, and it′s repeating itself again. I am not surprised."

Are you fearful for the future of Judea and Samaria?

"We find ourselves in great danger. Netanyahu declared war on the future of the settlements in Judea and Samaria. The construction freeze will surely continue. Netanyahu will announce, typically, that the freeze is over, when in reality it will continue, just like what is happening now in Yerushalayim. Then it all clicks, and even in the Likud everyone understands that Netanyahu′s behavior is very dangerous."

But there is no alternative.

"Sadly, this is the truth. The truth is lacking, and people have been following blindly, like sheep. Along with this, there is good news. The public is sobering up. We must be very proactive and do much in the public arena. We find ourselves ten years after the rash pullout from Lebanon that Barak pulled off five years before the expulsion from Gush Katif. The Jewish Nation is like a filling sandwiched between the Chamas and the Hizbullah, and is under very serious threat. Therefore I ask: do they want the Chamas to be able to harm us from the east, and wipe out the Dan region? Have we not learned anything?"

Is it true that there are scenarios where in case of a rocket attack, hundreds of thousands of Dan region residents being placed in the Shomron?

I can reveal to you that when the Home Front Command did maneuvers a few months ago, Gershon Mesika, Shomron Regional Council chairman, and I, presented a detailed plan for absorbing hundreds of thousands of Jews from the Dan and Sharon regions in the Shomron. This would be in case of a missile attack of any sort, G-d forbid. The Shomron is Israel′s last resort, and there is no debate

If Netanyahu decides (G-d forbid) to abandon the settlements and cede them to Arab rulership, would you agree to remain?

"I can tell you that if this happens thousands of Jews will stay on, including myself. We will not allow our forefathers′ inheritance to be delivered to the hands of our foe. I think that we can find ways to live there under any rule. Of course, we should not prefer this option, but we are ready for any scenario."

Does the situation worry you?

I am concerned about the core existence of the Jewish presence in Eretz Yisroel. Sadly, Nasrallah, the Hizbullah leader was correct in calling us a spider web state. In reality, it is. I am forced to agree with him. There are no ideals, no connection to the roots, and education connecting to our roots. It is no wonder that we are where we are now. On te other hand, there is much reason for hope, as we see that wherever there is a connection to Yiddishkeit, all systems flourish and progress.
