Eretz Yisroel is a good land, just as the Torah is called "good" –"For I give you good doctrine…"- so is Eretz Yisroel called "the good land": For the L-RD thy G-d bringeth thee into a good land" (Devorim: 8,7). If we are not worthy, (G-d forbid) it says:" and ye perish quickly from off the good land which the L-RD giveth you" (Devorim: 11,17).

This should be a basic principle, fixed firmly in every Jew′s mind: Eretz Yisroel is a good land.

The Ramban comments that this is how Moshe Rabbeinu succeeded in convincing Yisro to come with him to Eretz Yisroel: ′We are journeying unto the place of which the L-RD said: I will give it you; come thou with us, and we will do thee good; for the L-RD hath spoken good concerning Israel… yea, it shall be, that what good soever the L-RD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee." Our Sages taught that Yisro merited to take Yericho, City of Date Palms, which was an especially fertile and rich land, 500 amah by 500 amah.

In addition to the fact that Eretz Yisroel in itself is good, it is also the breeding ground where all aspects of good are cultivated. As Chazal have expounded: May the good one – Moshe- come, and receive the good- the Torah- from the Good One- HaKadosh Boruch Hu- to be given to the good ones- the Jewish Nation."

Moshe Rabbeinu begged Hashem:" Let me go over, I pray Thee, and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly hill-country, and Lebanon." About the Torah it says: For the Torah will come forth from Zion", about HaKadosh Boruch Hu it says: "Hashem is great in Zion", and the land is named for the Jewish Nation (Am Yisroel)- Eretz Yisroel.
