Givat Chalfon Builds

Shaul Chalfon served in the mythological unit 101, but after handing over Sinai destroying Yamit, he broke off his connection with Arik Sharon. Today he builds houses, especially in Yehuda and Shomron and also in Nitzan. Freeze construction? Despair? He never heard of it.

He is a colorful character and a well known Land of Israel loyalist. In any activity, demonstration, settlement etc., he is one of the first enthusiasts, with love of the land and the war on our existence burning in his bones. As a building contractor, he has accomplished great things in the realm of construction in Yesha.

Shaul Chalfon′s past history is quite impressive. His family arrived from Spain 800 years ago, even before the expulsion. For more than 500 years his ancestors had lived in Chevron, and he has a house that is actually a caravan on wheels, in the compound of the Avraham Avinu neighborhood, where he comes frequently.

His military resume is no less impressive. Shaul Chalfon served in the mythological unit 101 with Arik Sharon, and was a founder of Battalion 890. He took part in the most daring operations, and was awarded the Hero of Israel medal for parachuting into the Mitla Pass. Since the cession of Sinai and the destruction of Yamit, he severed all contact with Sharon, and all attempts of friends to get them together failed.

Beyond Shaul Chalfon being an active protester, he is a building contractor, especially in Yesha, and for years was a partner in many large projects. On the eve of the expulsion, Halfon was in the Sa - Nur settlement in northern Shomron. He built the synagogue in Sa - Nur, that wasn′t destroyed but was covered with sand by the military forces. Chalfon even merited to a Torah scroll being brought into the synagogue at Sa - Nur, and two babies were entered into the Covenant of Avraham Avinu there. He currently also builds in the settlement of Nitzan for the Gush Katif expellees, in order to build for the many who don′t have the financial ability to build homes for themselves.

The construction freeze also hit Chalfon. The Civil Administration confiscated a tractor Givat Harel, and work stopped. "I give my soul to Israel, wherever I can, I build, and do everything to settle the Land of Israel," he says.

Chalfon is concerned primarily about the lack of determination of the Rabbis in the struggle for Eretz Yisroel. "Torah laws supersede the laws of the state. We have to say it without stammering. The freeze today is the beginning of the destruction of Israel and we must prepare for a long determined and uncompromising struggle."

Halfon says the army is not fulfilling its destiny. "The state abandons its sons. Instead of Hamas leaders begging to return Gilad Shalit home, we are ready to release a thousand killers. The worst operation that the army has carried out the in the last 30 years is the expulsion from Gush Katif and Northern Shomron. We did not learn anything."

Chalfon is not discouraged. "As a believing and observant Jew, I′m sure that ′Hashem will not abandon His nation, and not leave His inheritance′, but we must remember that G-d promised,′ And if ye will not for all this hearken unto Me, but walk contrary unto Me, then I will walk contrary unto you in fury." The Six Day War was greater miracle than the splitting of the Red Sea, a gift from G-d to the people of Israel, and we abandoned everything. We cannot give up; we must fight fearlessly for the settlements.

This is what he has to say about the colorful clothing he wears: "Our Sages wrote that the nation of Israel was saved from Egypt because it had not changed their dress, so today I dress as our ancestors did."
