Planting Trees and Uprooting Settlements

Everyone was all abuzz with excitement: "Did you see what Bibi did? Did you hear what Bibi said? He planted a tree in Gush Etzion, and promised that will not cede Ariel, Maale Adumim and the bloc settlements, in any peace accords." What a statement! What determination! What a show of courage to the nations of the world! Indeed this is right prime minister who is not daunted by anyone!
Little I am actually ashamed that I cannot be a partner in the joy. Through my glasses I saw something else entirely. My ears heard: "We will plant a tree in Gush Etzion, and uproot Elkana and Karni Shomron. We will talk proudly in Maale Adumim,and uproot Kedumim and Chashmonaim. We will make statements in Ariel, and uproot Beit El and Nachliel." From his "negative" statements, you hear his "positive" plans.
The truth is that he will destroy Gush Etzion and Ariel and Ma′ale Adumim, but all according to the plan. It is an arrangement made since the happy go lucky Begin era: destroying Yamit to save Gaza, Shchem and Yericho. Giving up Gaza, Yericho and Shchem, to save Gush Katif. Uprooting the settlements in Katif, to save the Shomron. And so on. Sharon also said that "the same law applies to Tel Aviv and Netzarim." And they truly do have the same law. They expelled the residents of Gush Katif and missiles from there will reach till Tel Aviv.
Meanwhile, residents of the Gush celebrate. Bibi planted tree by us. You can sleep easy all the way to Efrat. What about the rest? This is not our concern. We are in the consensus (meanwhile..).
One thing is certain. What is certain is that "Justice will be done." Rabin. Katzav. Sharon. Olmert. Bibi. Everyone who says to the land of Israel is conceding – concedes his life. |
