The Deputy Prime Minister Toured the Gush Katif Museum
Minister Ya′alon, former Chief of Staff who signed the warning "The disengagement will give a tailwind for terror," wrote the to the staff of the Gush Katif Museum, "May your activities bring to an awakening of the nation, in the period in which Israel has not yet internalized the lessons of what took place. May many more Israelis understand that the conflict is not about the size of the state, but its right to exist"
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Strategic Affairs Moshe (Bogey) Ya′alon, visited the Gush Katif Museum last week in Yerushalayim. Minister Ya′alon took an emotional tour of all the exhibits that took approximately two hours.
The museum′s director, Shlomo Wasserteil, reviewed the Jewish history of the Gaza Strip for the Minister, through the settlements in Gush Katif, the greenhouses, the Museum archives, reference library, synagogues in Gush Katif, and disengagement plan documentation- the struggle and the uprooting.
Minister Yaalon looked at an exhibit of protest ads, and was surprised to read a quote from himself, warning of the results of the "disengagement", saying that it would give a tailwind to terror.
Minister Yaalon visited the Memorial Room commemorating the Gush Katif residents that lost their lives tragically, and lit a memorial candle in their memory. The minister knew some of them personally.
Minister Yaalon wrote his impressions of the Gush Katif Museum in the guest book: "Many thanks for all you are doing to document and eternalize one of the most infamous events that will go down in history as a negative occurrence. Hopefully your activities will shake up and awaken those who haven′t as yet internalized the lessons to be learnt. It is my hope that more and more people will come to the understanding that the conflict is not about the size and borders of the state of the Jewish Nation, rather about our very existence, and our right to exist. Your actions offer a great contribution to strengthen that which needs strengthening: the belief in the path, and the belief that this is the right path. Be strong and courageous.
At the conclusion of the visit, the minister was presented with a gift: a beautiful picture of Yerushalayim, by artist Boruch Nachshon. |
