Gush Katif Day in Shvat

The Gush Katif Museum is preparing for the month of Shvat, when the educational system commemorates Gush Katif Day

Shlomo Wasserteil, Director, Gush Katif Museum

School children dedicate a day of recognition of Gush Katif: What was the Gush Katif? Where was it? What were its characteristics? Who were the inhabitants? What were their occupations? What did they innovate? And more.

The 22nd day of Shvat is the anniversary of the establishment of Netzer - Hazani, the first settlement in Gush Katif, in 5737 (1977). Therefore, this date was established as Gush Katif Day in the education system. On Gush Katif Day, and the entire month of Shvat, schoolchildren and their teachers are invited to visit the Gush Katif Museum in Yerushalayim, the museum that tells the story of the settlements that existed for about 30 years in the Gush, of the settler families and the special life that was in Gush Katif.

After the visit, students are invited to be photographed beside the menora which was placed on the synagogue in Netzarim, was transported from there to the Kotel in Yerushalayim, and is now displayed at the museum.

Visitors participate in a tour guided by former settlers in the Gush, who tell the story of Gush Katif.

May we soon see the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Prophet Amos, " And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them, saith the L-RD thy G-d" (Amos 9, 15).

For group tours, please coordinate your visit in advance with the Museum office staff.
