Who is really the prime minister?
Boaz Haetzni wonders how it happened that senior positions in Israel changed, and no one bothered to inform us * Meet the new team: Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and President Benjamin Netanyahu * Need proof? Here it is
Boaz Haetzni
What is the role of prime minister? To deal with most important and crucial issues and to take responsibility for them. The foreign minister is Diplomat No. 1 in the world who travels the world, meets with leaders, makes policy statements and directs the country′s foreign relations. The President discusses issues in the consensus. His statements are general, away from targeted internal disputes, he is not responsible for implementation, and his powers are limited.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Defense Minister Ehud Barak. President Shimon Peres. Right? No!
In reality, Ehud Barak is prime minister and defense minister, Shimon Peres is foreign minister, Bibi is the president. Want evidence? Please: Shimon Peres does not stop traveling around to world capitals, to meet with leaders, engage in foreign policy and make policy statements, including on the most controversial issues. Thus, there was a political meeting with Mubarak in Cairo, and he declared "We must evacuate outposts", "We must finish the negotiations with the Palestinians this term", "The key to our relationship with Washington is a renewal of negotiations". Peres also met with the American Foreign Minister and said this about policy: "We are committed to the road map." Regarding the Iranian issue he stated: "The government is not coming to America with any ultimatum of schedules, meeting with Mitchell said:" There is consensus in Israel to evacuate outposts ... and not build new settlements."
In July there was another political meeting with Mitchell, discussing the Iranian threat, the peace process and strengthening relations with the United States, he spoke out about the Saudi initiative, negotiations with Syria and Obama′s speech. At the economic and political conference in Italy he stated: "Israel has decided to make peace on the basis of the principle of ′two states′ and welcomes and supports the Arab League′s initiative to establish a comprehensive peace between Arab states and Israel".
Where is Netanyahu? He does not get involved in acts of the executive branch ...
Ehud Barak is the one who conducted the freeze negotiations with Mitchell and applied West Bank policies much worse than those during the Olmert regime. His aggressive measures against the settlements are leading to a rift reminiscent of the Sharon period, and the clash with the Hesder yeshivos leads to historical damage to the motivation to serve, and the recruitment rates of religious Zionists in the IDF. Leaked IDF documents indicate lack of connection between what was decided in the government and Barak′s actions, who sees himself exempt of taking the government into consideration. Barak is the acting prime minister.
Netanyahu does not respond, running away from responsibility. His personal decision that he will finish this term at any price leads him to be submissive to the media and the elitists. He does not dream of doing anything that the leftist- Soviet media does not like, allows Peres and Barak to take over the State, and thus brought himself the real president′s position, not interfering on controversial subjects, without authority, a rubber stamp of the state′s true executive branch- Peres and Barak. The truth is that the division of functions is suitable for the character of this trio. Each one is doing what he really wants and loves. But that′s not what the people chose and absolutely not what they like.
Where is the Likud? Good question. Ze′ev Jabotinsky said that whoever wants to rob a foolish patriot - all he has to do is sing the anthem; the idiot will stand at attention, and allow putting a hand into his pocket, taking his wallet. He just never dreamed that his followers will be on the side that was robbed. |
