The little flask of oil was small in quantity, but great in quality. It lasted long enough, miraculously, to light the Menorah in the Bais HaMikdosh for eight days. What was so unique about this little flask that was found was that it was pure.
The Torah teaches us time and again that even a small and paltry thing, if done according to Hashem's wish in purity and holiness, can be a conduit through which G-dly blessing and abundance comes down into this world. In these cases, the small vessel contains a great amount.
One of the instances that is related in the Tanach tells of Eliyahu the Prophet and the miracle he performed for the poor widow. The vessels were paltry indeed- one spoonful of flour and a drop of oil in the cruse. That little bit was enough to bring down G-dly bounty: "For thus saith the L-RD, the G-d of Israel: The jar of meal shall not be spent, neither shall the cruse of oil fail" (Melochim 1, 17, 14).
A similar miracle was performed by Elisha for the wife of one of the prophets. Through one single drop of oil, the G-dly blessing was drawn down from Above and all her vessels were filled to the top with oil.
And so it was with the miracle that happened with the one single oil flask in the Bais HaMikdosh: a little bit of oil drew a great light from Above. That small amount of oil was the conduit to draw and connect itself to the holiness Above, to spread it through the Bais HaMikdosh, and on to Yerushalayim and the entire land.
These miracles contain a great lesson for us in these turbulent times, when the nations of the world are trying to steal our land from us. We must continue to build the land with all our might; even one tiny act that we are able to carry out must be done. There is no act too small, as we learned from the small flask of oil. Our small acts will be like that little flask of pure oil, and through it a great miracle will occur.
