So (again) they choose a Consultant who will be an obstacle
Gang law rule led by Dorit Beinish again receive a mortal blow, while the decline of public confidence in the justice system continues. The data indicate that the level of trust in the justice system as a whole stands on a medium - low grade of 2.89 - the lowest in years. But the gang continued to hit and takes over the prosecution system by force.
"What was will be and there is nothing new under the sun", a senior lawyer who was involved in the committee to select the attorney general told us this week. Indeed, life carries on as usual, and Dorit Beinisch, Mishael Cheshin, Aharon Barak, and other members of the junta are running the country again.
The Sicilian Mafia threatens Netanyahu
Let's start from the end: the search committee headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Theodor Or did not recommend a candidate, since none of the 11 candidates received votes from four members of the committee as required. However, contrary to all established rules, even the names that did not receive the support of four members of the committee will be brought to a vote in the government, and only they will be candidates for the position.
What is the reason? 'Our Land of Israel ' research reveals that the gang law ruling folk fought with their all so that Judge Noam Solberg, who was one of the 11 candidates for the job, would not succeed. When it became clear that out of five committee members - three members of extreme left versus two Likud members - only two Likudnikim supported Solberg, the gang members rushed to the Prime Minister and Minister of Justice with a singular message: "propose only to those who received the support of three members of the committee! Otherwise we will rekindle the fight in the style we fought in the past against Netanyahu!"
If Solberg's candidacy was put up to the government, there was no doubt: Solberg would have been the next Attorney General of the State of Israel.
Who's Who
Judge Noam Solberg (47), resident of Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion, became, for the gang rule, a type of red sheet that must be prevented to be appointed at any price. A few months ago they launched a campaign against him placing his candidacy for Supreme Court judge, and then the court dogs of the junta began to bring up Solberg's name repeatedly in the context of "extreme right", "young", "not mature", "settlers", etc….
Anyone familiar with Solberg laughs at this. Solberg is the crème de la crème of the judiciary. In the past he specialized under Pliah Albeck, director of the State Attorney's Office civil department, then served as assistant to Attorney General Yosef Harish, later served as assistant to Attorney General Eliakim Rubinstein, and then appointed as a judge in Jerusalem Magistrate's Court. He was then promoted to the district court in the city.
Solberg is just not a rightist. He is a state official, as official as they come. Lawyers who appeared before him tell of his balanced judicial temperament. They noted that he also does not tend automatically to take the police and prosecution's side. That may be what makes it so scary for the gang rule folks.
A judicial source says that those attacking Solberg hope that the pressure will do its job, and in the course of his work sitting as a judge in the Jerusalem District Court, he will understand if he will not rule against the right and slant the verdicts, he will not be promoted. The equation is simple: pressure Solberg, and you get a judge who will tow the line with the system and not dare ask questions. This is the hope of the law rule gang.
As for the claim that Solberg is not mature enough, say legal sources, that those who claimed this argument - those members of the search committee from the left wing - do not hesitate to support the candidacy of someone younger than Solberg and without any prior judicial experience - Mrs. Daphne Barak Erez – age 44... but her views and agenda are "correct" so suddenly they do not mind.
A Religious Leftist: Yaakov (Lo) Neeman (Disloyal- a play on words in Hebrew)
Solberg, apparently, scares them, since he is not part of the gang law rule. All other candidates for the job, including "religious candidate" Yedidia Stern, hold opinions that are "appropriate", and are radical leftists continuing the way of Mazuz, Charish and Michael Ben - Yair (not Ben - Ari ...).
For example, candidate Stern supports the left-wing religious party "Meimad" and expressed his controversial views in the past. Research for 'Our Land of Israel' reveals that Stern said in several occasions that he favors marriage of divorcees and Cohanim. He called 'the rules of loyalty' to the State of Minister Lieberman "racist", and during Operation Cast Lead called for a cease-fire and to wait for the reaction of Hamas ...
Stern is the preferred candidate of Neeman, appointed by the Yisrael Beiteinu party ... I wonder what Lieberman thinks the appointment of an attorney general who called his proposed laws "racist laws and not moral."
But the problem in this story is not Yedidia Stern. Not even Beinisch, Theodor Or and other friends of a feather. The problem is Minister of Justice Neeman and Prime Minister Netanyahu! Neeman buckled under in the Judicial Appointment Committee, and agreed to the appointment of Judge Uzi Fogelman's on behalf of Beinisch. Netanyahu folded and announced that the position of attorney general will not be split - a move that will continue the monopoly in the hands of the counsel. Now Netanyahu and Neeman capitulated again, announced that they will not propose Solberg's name as a candidate.
With the justice minister as "religious" as Neeman, and the prime minister as "right" as Netanyahu, a Rightist said that we might as well accept Chaim Ramon or Daniel Friedman. They at least do not do Mrs. Beinisch's bidding. |
